Loft - E gift card hacked and no recourse

Received e gift card for Christmas. Went to Loft to buy clothes and someone in Virginia had already use balance. We live in North Carolina. Loft salesperson refererred us to Cash Star, Cash Star referred us back to Loft-Ann Taylor and back and forth two more times. We are left with nothing.
